Gotta get my sh-- together...
GOT TO GET MY SH-- TOGETHER AS I HAVE TWO FOUR-HUNDRED MILE DRIVES AHEAD OF ME.
GOING TO LEAVE MY GOODWIFE, Cathy, AT HOME, AS SHE IS 'INFLUENZED' BY BRONCHITIS AND SINUSITIS COMBINED...AND MY 13-YEAR OLD 'POUND DOG' Dunebuggy WILL STAY AT HOME AS GUARD DOG (SOME GUARD!- HE WANDERS UP TO EVERYONE
WITH TAIL WAGGING, ALWAYS EAGER TO BEFRIEND.)
ANYWAY, IT IS TIME TO VISIT MY 94 Y.O. MUM WHOSE MELANOMA HAS SPREAD FROM INGUINAL NODES ON HER RIGHT SIDE TO INGUINAL NODES ON HER LEFT SIDE.
SHE HAS HAD A BIOPSY, SURGERY (LYMPHADENECTOMY)...AND I WANT HER NOT TO BE BRAINWASHED INTO GETTING MORE SURGERY...AFTER ALL, SHE IS NO 'SPRING CHICKEN', EVEN THOUGH SHE IS REMARKABLY CAPABLE AT 94.
SHE SEEMS TO GET SOME SOLACE THAT I, TOO, HAVE HAD SURGERY FOR MELANOMA, THOUGH MINE SHOWS NO SIGNS OF RECURRENCE 2 YEARS POST-OP.
ANYWAY, IT WILL BE GOOD TO SEE 'ME MUM' AND HOPEFULLY SOME OLD FRIENDS IN THE GREATER STANFORD UNIVERSITY AREA.
RIGHT NOW I CANNOT DECIDE WHETHER TO HANG OUT HERE IN CRESCENT CITY AND WALK WITH OTHER "RELAY FOR LIFE" SURVIVORS IN OUR AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE WALKATHON TONIGHT...OR, TO HIT THE ROAD AND TEND TO 'FAMILY BUSINESS'...
AS MY ABSENCE HERE WILL NOT BE NOTICED, I'LL PROBABLY GET GOING TO MY MUM'S PLACE AT STANFORD.

My wife says my absence here would be noticed...so my departure is postponed by one day.
...and that is how decisions are made in this household (LOL).
Sounds like the right kind of notice to me! Have a good journey and quality time with your "mum" - an amazing age. Strength to you both.
It is not a bad thing to have one's absences noted ... perhaps. Sounds like a hard trip, Chuck. Drive carefully, eh.
Certainly not true that your absence wouldn't be noticed.
Hope your Mom is feeling strong and the visit is a good one, Chuck.
We'll see you here soon?
Have a good and safe journey to Stanford area, Chuck. I hope everything works out well for your mom. And, I hope Cathy starts to feel better too.
Leazwell, LJ,
Gee...I'm touched...really.
I'm kind of looking forward to driving alone, talking to myself, and singing with the radio...being 'wild and crazy' within the confines of my auto.
TAKE CARE...
Robin Andrea
Thanks for your good wishes.
(When I worked at KQED in SF in 1967-1968 I met K. Rexroth. He read some poetry and was interviewed- by Jim Day, I believe. I enjoyed meeting him and chatting about the problems involved in translating literature...For a "dharma bum" he was 'nattily' dressed in a tweed sports jacket and, I believe, a bola tie.)

I really appreciate your kind words!
And I very much enjoy your weblog!
You absence will absolutely get noticed. I wish you a safe and rewarding trip and I wish all the best to your mom.
94! You must have good genes. Pack up my good thoughts and wishes when you head out. And yes, you will be missed.

I will take all the good wishes I can garner...with GRATITUDE!
And hopefully, I may reciprocate
with as many good wishes...
Glad your surgery did the job, Chuck, and I hope that, with only a little bit of luck, you get to enjoy your Mum for some time yet. Best wishes; enjoy the ride and stay safe.
